Quite simply, Alderney is a font of type for the Macintosh computer and ImageWriter printers which produces near letter quality output. If fact, if you use Alderney correctly (and the manual gives you many hints and suggestions to this end) you will be able to produce documents which look far better than typed copy.
Alderney comes in a wide range of sizes so that you have the freedom of choice to decide for yourself what sizes suit you best. Currently Alderney comes in the following point sizes: 9, 10, 12, 14, 18, 20, 24, 28, 36, & 48 points, each of which sport all of Alderney’s 200+ characters. And speaking of characters, Alderney supports the entire Macintosh character set (so you don’t have to learn new keyboard configurations) in addition to several special symbols unique to Alderney.
Alderney was created to satisfy a need. The author knew the quality the ImageWriter printers were capable of producing, but was disappointed time and time again by the available fonts. So instead of giving up and resorting to a lesser quality font, he began to create Alderney with the amount of professionalism typeface design demmands. And the result of that work certainly justifies the time put into it.
